STLCC Faculty Member Receives Champion Diversity Award

A St. Louis Community College faculty member was recognized for her efforts to promote diversity in the construction industry by the St. Louis Council of Construction Consumers (SLCCC) during its annual awards presentation last month.

Deborah Henry, assistant professor in history at St. Louis Community College-Forest Park, received the organization’s Champion Diversity Award along with Scott Wilson, president of S. M. Wilson Co.

Henry was recognized for more than two decades as a champion for diversity in construction.  She assisted in the creation of the Missouri Women in the Trades chapter in St. Louis, served as the first board president of the Association for Construction Careers, Education and Support Services (ACCESS) and was instrumental in developing a performance-based scorecard for measurement of the many regional construction related pre-apprentice programs.

In addition to Henry and Wilson, other award recipients were the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District, Organization of the Year, and BAM Contracting, Minority Business Enterprise. SLCCC also recognized best practices in the construction industry during the event.

SLCCC represents owners who are major buyers of construction in the St. Louis region. SLCCC provides leadership to improve cost and quality in delivery of capital facilities and maintenance by the St. Louis design and construction industry.

Established in 1962, St. Louis Community College is the largest community college district in Missouri and one of the largest in the United States.  STLCC has four campuses – Florissant Valley, Forest Park, Meramec and Wildwood – and annually serves more than 100,000 students through credit courses, continuing education and workforce development programs.  For more information about STLCC, visit www.stlcc.edu.
