Missouri Consortium for Global Education (MCGE) PDF Print E-mail

The MCCA, in its advocacy role for community colleges, performs a variety of services to Missouri’s community colleges, including sponsoring and hosting the Missouri Consortium for global Education (MCGE).

The Missouri Consortium for Global Education (MCGE) is a consortium of the community colleges of the state of Missouri. Its primary aim is to promote and facilitate global education in and among its member colleges. It was founded in 1996, when four entities joined together to sponsor a conference entitled, “Global Education and Missouri Community Colleges.” These co-sponsors were Crowder College, the St. Louis Community College District, the Missouri Community College Association (MCCA), and the Stanley Foundation. Selected conference participants, who included presidents, faculty, deans and trustees, proceeded to chart the course for this new organization that would carry the banner of global education. The following May 1997, institutional representatives from each of the community colleges met and formed the Missouri Consortium for Global Education (MCGE), an organization that would function under the auspices of the Missouri Community College Association (MCCA). The goals and objectives of MCGE are:
  • To facilitate the globalization of community college curricula.
  • To assist community colleges in promoting the economic development of the community by providing marketing and technical skills to function in a global community.
  • To promote the sharing of resources.
  • To provide appropriate, accessible, affordable study abroad opportunities.
  • To facilitate international and domestic college-to-college affiliations that provides appropriate global education experiences for staff, students and the community.
  • To offer global education staff development opportunities.
  • To assist individual staff and students to attain their personal goals in global experience.
  • To provide statewide representation and leadership in selected organizations promoting proper participation of community colleges in international education.
  • To assist in the hosting of international visitors.

The MCGE is now the vehicle through which Missouri community colleges are meeting global challenges together.
